Magic: the gathering ...
Magi's Manner
A Different approach to
Magic the Gathering
Discussion
These rules are changes from the 'norms' of Magic the gathering.
The main idea is to make the game run smoother and quicker, giving the players a better opportunity to have fun with the game.
Those of you who relish in the quick kill mode, should really try this. It requires a rethink of how to play Magic, and is easier for people learning Magic.
Basic Ideas:
- Magic is designed for a quick kill of the opponent(s)
- Cards categories are designed to expedite this
- 'Global approach' to playing {strategy} is seldom used
Modifications:
- There is a Global Mode Cache: {Think of it as Common Cards in texas poker}
Which contains cards/spells that apply to all players
- The number of cards to draw at the beginning of the game vary according to the number of players.
Variant 13 cards for all players
- 2 players: 11 cards
- 3 players: 9 cards
- 4 players+: 7 cards
- Specific cards/types have had the timings/effects changed:
- Sorceries may be played as Permanents and/or as Instants
( unless it says until end of turn)
- Sorceries not played as Permanents stay in play until countered ( unless it says until end of turn )
- Artifact creatures/lands/equipment that are both artifacts and creatures/lands/equipment, spells must target/apply to whichever element of the card
i.e.: spells that target artifacts don't apply if you're using the creature element and spells that target creatures don't apply if it's not being used as a creature and other artifact elements-abilties must be dealt with accordingly. - Any card with a normal cost of zero or reduced cost of zero may be played at any time and draw the same number of zero casting cost/reduced-to-zero cost cards
- Sorceries may be played as Permanents and/or as Instants
- You may attack yourself with your own creature(s)
- The 'Global Mode Cache' can be added to/subtracted to by paying 2 life points
- The following are the cards we use as defaults in the GMC:
- Library of Leng[ you may have more than 7 cards in your hand and if you must discard, discard to your library ]
- Howling Mine [ all players must draw one additional card each turn ]
- Rainbow Vale [ all players may use the vale as an additional mana source of any color ]
- There is no such thing as 'banned' or 'restricted' cards - However; God combo's cards are frowned on:
- Reset switches { wrath of god, Armageddon, etc. }
- two card deaths { siren's call+festival }
- Nullification { stasis, blinding light or otherwise halting an opponent [ see #8 ] }
- Other Rules as follows:
- Gentleman's rules of order : player on left cut's deck into three piles
- No combat against an opponent who has not had sufficient time to prepare a defense [ 7 turns in general ]
- No combat against on opponent who has no defense { ergo you may not kill an opponent who has not defended himself [ if a player has attacked you and has lost/tapped all his creatures - then he/she is open game] }
It is the finesse of the play that is the rule of this game not the strength of the kill.
It is strategy that is most important in this system
